Word Pong: A Classic Game With A Massive Vocabulary Twist

Reading Time: 2 minutes

First, if you haven’t checked out our one-of-a-kind 530,000-word vocabulary assessment game, make sure you do! Second, we just developed another game that draws words from our massive word database: Word Pong!

Also, be sure to check out our latest, most addictive game, a Space Invaders-vocabulary hybrid game with two difficulty levels!

Instructions and Controls

Everything in Word Pong is the same as classic Pong except for the additional feature where you can lengthen or shorten your paddle by answering vocabulary questions. To lengthen or shorten your paddle, read the word shown on the top of the screen. If it is a real word, press ‘A’ or ←. If it is a fake word, press ‘D’ or →. Each correct answer gives you 1 point, while incorrect answers deduct 2.33 points. (We have yet to make this game playable on non-keyboard mobile and tablet devices. We will work out a way to make the game playable without a keyboard soon!)

Harder difficulty levels get you more points for each correct answer, and selecting 2 balls doubles your score.

We will continue to update and improve the game in the next few weeks.

Other Games

Lastly, be sure to check out all our other games on our Games page or simply click on one of our featured arcade-vocabulary hybrid games featuring our 530,000-word database below:

  • Space Invaders Vocabulary Game: a vocabulary twist on the addictive 1970s game in which you shoot at aliens, this game encourages you to answer vocabulary questions correctly to increment lives, while incorrect answers deduct lives.
  • Fake Tetris: control the speed of falling tiles by answering vocabulary questions. Giving six consecutive correct answers eliminates half the tiles on the screen, and giving ten consecutive correct answers clears all tiles.
  • Word Snake: a vocabulary twist on the addictive classic 1990s Nokia game in which you maneuver an ever-growing, moving snake to eat an apple, this game encourages you to answer vocabulary questions correctly to slow down the snake, while incorrect answers speed up the snake.
  • How Many Words Do You Know?: Based on Ghent University’s now-unavailable vocabulary assessment, this game expands upon the university’s original 60,000-word database to incorporate our very own 530,000-word vocabulary bank.

That’s it! Have fun!
